Arts on Main Stroll, Featuring “Chalk the Block” and Art Show, Returns May 6

A sure sign of spring in East Greenwich, the “Arts on Main Stroll”, is set to return to Main Street Saturday May 6. Artists young and old will be displaying, crafting, and selling a variety of artistic creations. Local artists will line Main Street and feature their paintings, sculptures, photography, and more. There will also be the “Chalk the Block” street drawing contest for kids and families on Courthouse Lane and Peirce Street surrounding Town Hall. “Arts on Main has been one of the community’s most anticipated events every year. As we have done for the last couple of years, we are extending the festivities to all of Main Street by inviting local artists to feature their work. This added to the fun of the street drawing contest which we have had for years,” said East Greenwich Chamber Executive Director Steve Lombardi. He continued, “We are hoping to make this event even better this year”.

Local artists will be invited to showcase and sell their art in a street fair type atmosphere as part of the Arts on Main Stroll. There is no cost for artists to participate, although those wishing to apply are asked to contact the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce by phone (401-885-0020) or in person (580 Main Street, open M-F 9AM-4PM). Applications need to be submitted to Amy Moore at the EG Chamber no later than April 24. No artists are allowed to participate without approval from the Chamber.

Local musicians (as well as artists) will be invited to participate in the Music on Main Stroll scheduled for Thursday, July 20. East Greenwich’s Music on Main Strolls feature music of all types and styles. Those that are interested in participating should also contact Amy Moore at the EG Chamber.
For those looking to participate in the “Chalk the Block” street drawing contest, each participant who pre-registers by Sunday, April 30 will receive an exclusive CHALK THE BLOCK t-shirt! Walk in registrations will also be accepted the day of the event. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in various categories, including individual participants ages four and up as well as family groups. Participants of all skill levels are welcome. You can draw by yourself or create a family team. If you are not ready to show your artistic side, come enjoy the day and vote for your favorite drawing in the People’s Choice Award! The Arts on Main Stroll will take place on Main Street East Greenwich May 6 from 12PM-4PM. The “Chalk the Block” street drawing contest will take place from 12PM-3PM. The Arts on Main Stroll is produced by the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce and its Main Street Merchants Committee in partnership with the Main Street Association.
