Would you like to increase your life expectancy, reduce the stress in your life, lose some weight, meet new neighbors, enjoy the local landscape, spend time away from the computer and videogames, participate in safe, affordable children's games, join other senior citizens on excursions, or just feel good about yourself? Then the Parks and Recreation Department is the place for you. There are many more benefits available. The current flyer lists various athletic, cultural, educational and social events..
East Greenwich offers the community a year-round comprehensive program. It is the Department's policy to present a varied program that provides enrichment, physical well being and a chance to participate for tots, youths, teens, adults and senior citizens.
Three main brochures are produced, listing the Fall sessions, Winter / Spring and the Summer session. Additional flyers are generated with special events and activities, including school vacation programs, the Halloween Parade & party, etc. The brochures are also available at the Parks and Recreation office, Town Hall and the Library or by logging on to http://www.eastgreenwichri.com/ . Information is also distributed via the school department's list serve.
Programs for tots, youths and teens are intended to introduce and develop leisure skills in a variety of areas (instructional, pick up nights, leagues, social, crafts, etc.). Adult programs include men's, women's and co-recreational groups, with pick-up athletic nights, formalized leagues, fitness and social programs. Family activities are offered through summer concerts, the Halloween Parade & Party, children's performances, and other town-wide events.
The Parks & Recreation Department also schedules and maintains the town and school athletic and recreational facilities. East Greenwich provides recreation facilities such as tennis courts, basketball courts, a skate park and athletic fields as well as passive areas such as playgrounds, parks and open spaces.
