Housing Authority of the Town of East Greenwich
The Housing Authority of the Town of East Greenwich (EGHA), established in 1967, provides quality housing and supportive services for low and moderate income households. We own and manage 27 family public housing units at two sites: Dedford Farm and Marlborough Crossing. Dedford Farm contains structures dating to 1848 and, from the late 1940's into the 1980's, was the East Greenwich "Poor Farm". Rehabilitation of the 12 units on the site today was completed in 1990. In 1995, the construction of Marlborough Crossing at the site of the former "Railroad Inn" on Duke Street added another 16 public housing units.
Many more local households (about 180) receive EGHA assistance to live in privately owned rental housing. These units are scattered throughout the Town. The EGHA works closely with both tenants and property owners to ensure the continued success of this housing program.
Additionally, The EGHA manages Regal Court, on Long Street, a 35 unit elderly housing facility as well as a 106 unit complex for the elderly and the disabled on Sixth Avenue, Shoreside Apartments.
The Authority offers many services to meet out tenants' needs. These include an exceptionally high quality early childhood learning center, London Bridge, located on Duke Street and serving the dual purpose of supporting low income, often single, parents seeking employment as well as affording their children an especially enriching experience. Our Family Self Sufficiency program is available to parents who need education, training, or other supports to transition to jobs. We also offer an assisted homeownership program. Social service supports are available to the elderly and disabled, including one-on-one counseling, housekeeping assistance, and help accessing medical, nutritional, and other benefits at the housing sites.
Throughout the year, we schedule regular social activities, including seasonal and holiday parties, for both adults and children.
