    SUMMER FOOD DRIVE KICKS OFF FOR LOCAL PANTRIES

    August 05, 2015
    The community is invited to join BankNewport and OceanPoint Insurance Agency (OPIA) this summer to show support to local pantries in their efforts to provide food to families and individuals in need.

    Beginning Saturday, August 1 through Saturday, August 15, all BankNewport and OPIA locations will be accepting community donations of non-perishable food items, including hot and cold cereals, canned and dry fruits, rice, beans, canned vegetables and granola bars.  Gluten-free options will also be accepted.

    During the summer, when children are out of school an additional strain is created on the budgets of low-income families who are already struggling to make ends meet.  It is also a challenging time for local pantries, many of whom experience a drop-off in food donations.   BankNewport and OPIA seek to help restock pantry shelves throughout Bristol County, Newport County, and in West Bay communities.  Donations gathered during the two-week collection period will benefit the following ten food pantries:

    BankNewport Barrington branch (330 County Road) and OPIA Barrington office
    (26 Bosworth Street) will collect food for Tap-In;

    BankNewport Bristol branch (6 Gooding Avenue) and Warren branch (323 Market Street) will collect food for the East Bay Food Pantry;

    BankNewport Coventry branch and OPIA Coventry office (730 Centre of New England Boulevard) will collect food for Coventry Friends of Human Services;

     (more)

    BankNewport Cranston branch (875 Pontiac Avenue) will collect food for the Saint Vincent de Paul Emergency Food Center;

    BankNewport East Greenwich branch (1000 Division Street) will collect food for the East Greenwich Interfaith Food Cupboard;

    BankNewport Narragansett Branch (90 Point Judith Road) will collect food for the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale.
