Soozie Sundlun Retires After 40 Years in Photography

    October 24, 2016
Soozie Sundlun, Owner and Head Photographer of East Greenwich Photo, will be retiring and closing her business’s doors this fall after 40 years on November 12th.

“After 40 years of photographing your weddings, babies, families, bar / bat mitzvahs, pets and special moments, I’m retiring to focus on different personal interests, including my family, my chosen charity: the Special Olympics, and my art,” said Sundlun.

Founded by Soozie and her former husband, Jason Dittelman in 1976, East Greenwich Photo originated as a camera and photo equipment store—the first in Rhode Island to offer one-hour photo developing.  It quickly grew into a modern fine art and full in-house photography studio.  Services included studio and on-location photography, archival printmaking, video transfers, wedding photography, videography, digital photo restorations, and film processing.

Known as Rhode Island’s “Photographer of the Stars”, Sundlun captured photos of politicians and celebrities throughout her career such as Presidents Barack Obama, President Bill and Secretary Hillary Clinton, Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart, Ray Charles, Sting, Robert Redford and many more.

Soozie is looking forward to devoting more of her time to her son, Max Dittelman, daughter Heather Conover, and four grandchildren, Calvin, Natalie, Ellie, and Charlotte.   Soozie said East Greenwich Photo will remain open for customers to pick up photos and other materials until Saturday, November 12th.

“I want to especially thank my former husband Jason Dittelman, for without him I would have never been a photographer.  Jason now runs a high end framing business, Crestar, with his partner Cathy Buchanan.  Most of all I want to thank all the people in Rhode Island who have supported me, worked with me, and shared their most precious moments with me over these 40 years.  God bless you all.”

“Though East Greenwich Photo and Studio will no longer accept new business after November 1st, I hope the moments we captured for you will continue to live on,” said Sundlun.  “It’s been an honor and a privilege to share these moments with you.  I feel blessed to have been able to do what I love for all this time.“
