    EAST GREENWICH HONORING VETERANS

    November 02, 2015
The Town of East Greenwich proudly announces their annual Veterans’ Day Parade on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:00 AM. From Academy Field, the parade will continue to First Avenue (Rt.401) for a wreath-laying ceremony at the corner of Cliff Street. The parade will then proceed North on Main Street to the Town Hall for closing ceremonies to conclude at about 11:00 AM. This year’s Master of Ceremonies is Jr. Vice Commander Ray Vernon with the East Greenwich American Legion Post 15.

The “Lone Piper” Aaron Lindo will lead the parade which will feature Color Guards from the Police and Fire Departments along with the always resplendent local militia groups the Kentish Guards and Varnum Continentals. Several veteran organizations will be present such as the American Legion Post 15, Korean War Veterans Chapter 2 and the VFW Post 8018.

Spectators young and old will be entertained by the return of the 88th Army Band as well as the Nightlife Marching Band and our very own East Greenwich High School Band, who will be marching and providing patriotic favorites. Local Boy and Girl Scouts will march along with many local organizations displaying their patriotic spirit. Miss Rhode Island America, Allie Curtis and Ms. Rhode Island North East States, Jaclynn Barry both from East Greenwich are along for the ride!

WCTK Cat Country is joining the parade for the first time. Numerous classic and antique cars will participate along with the ever patriotic Blue Knights Law Enforcement motor group. Local fire companies will display an outstanding array of apparatus.

Families and friends of all veterans, and any veteran not marching with another parade group, are encouraged to join a contingent of marchers to walk together on parade day. Please contact Jack Kelly for more information or questions at (401) 789-7667 or jfkelly1@cox.net.

The Town prides itself on being one of only a handful of Rhode Island communities to continue to sponsor this parade, honoring Veterans of all wars, especially those who have given their last full measure of devotion.

A temporary parking ban will be in effect on several of the streets surrounding Academy Field in order to accommodate parade vehicles. There is NO RAIN DATE. In the event of inclement weather, participants can call the EG Police (401) 886-8640 or the Town’s main line (401) 886-8600 by 9am for a cancellation notice.
