Hundreds of pounds of non-perishable food was collected thanks to the generosity of the community during the BankNewport and OceanPoint Insurance Agency (OPIA) summer food drive held August 1 through August 15 at all Bank and OPIA locations.
The summer is a challenging time for food pantries, many of whom experience a decline in donations. The goal of the collection drive was to show support to local pantries in their tireless efforts to help provide food to those families and individuals struggling to make ends meet.
At the conclusion of the collection drive, representatives from BankNewport and OPIA transported community food donations to the following ten local food pantries in Bristol County, Newport County, and throughout the West Bay communities: Coventry Friends of Human Services, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, East Bay Community Action Program Tiverton Pantry, East Bay Food Pantry, East Greenwich Interfaith Food Cupboard, Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale, North Kingstown Food Pantry, Saint Mark Church Outreach program in Jamestown, Saint Vincent de Paul Emergency Food Center in Cranston, and Tap-In of Barrington.
