AMICA INSURANCE CEO ROBERT A. DIMUCCIO TO RECEIVE 56th ANNUAL VERRAZZANO DAY AWARD
The Verrazzano Day Observance Committee announces that the recipient of its 2016
Man of the Year Award will be Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and chief
executive officer of Amica Mutual Insurance Company.
The award presentation will take place at the organization’s annual dinner, which will be
held at the Venus de Milo restaurant on Saturday, May 14.
The award was established in 1961 by the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island – Order Sons
of Italy in America and the Department of Rhode Island – Italian-American War Veterans
of the United States. The Verrazzano Day Observance Committee was incorporated by
these two Italian-American organizations to honor the memory of Giovanni da
Verrazzano, the Florentine navigator who discovered Narragansett Bay in 1524 and who
described in his report to King Francis I that the island he discovered was like the “Isle of
Rhodes.” From his report, history credits Verrazzano for having been indirectly
responsible for naming Rhode Island. The annual event honoring this great navigator is
also held to honor an outstanding leader in the Rhode Island community.
A native Rhode Islander and graduate of Providence College, Mr. DiMuccio joined
Amica in 1991 as a vice president in the accounting department. He held many
additional offices at the company, becoming president and chief executive officer in
2005 and chairman in 2008. Mr. DiMuccio has served on many insurance-related boards
and councils, and he has earned the CPCU and CPA designations. He and his wife,
Rena, live in Cumberland, and they have two sons. The Committee believes Mr.
DiMuccio follows a long list of distinguished prior recipients.
Mr. Ernest C. Ricci, Jr., CPA, the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island’s financial secretary, will
serve as chairman of this year’s dinner. Mr. Oscar Tassone of the Department of Rhode
Island – Italian-American War Veterans of the United States has been designated cochairman.
