A Message from the Executive Director - 4/28/20

    April 28, 2020
I would like to begin this column with a shout out to everyone in the East Greenwich medical community for their critical and brave work during this highly pressurized and risky Corona Virus epidemic. We are particularly proud of everyone associated with Care New England/Kent Hospital and South County Health. Both organizations are vital to our community and are very supportive of the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce’s efforts to help make this a great place to live and work. And speaking of our medical community, several of our restaurants have stepped up to provide free lunches to those working long hours at our hospitals. I would also like to thank the many that have given us information as to how Personal Protection Equipment can be obtained. We are happy that we could assist in distribution of PPE.

Before the coronavirus pandemic began, The EG Chamber was planning for a very busy 2020 , full of business networking events ,Main Street Strolls ,our Annual Golf Tournament to benefit the Tomorrow Fund, and much more. That has been tabled as we have shifted our attention to help saving our wonderful small business community. Our small businesses and all they do, add to our community’s quality of life and make East Greenwich the special place that it is. As the EG Chamber continues to promote buying gift cards, ordering take out, and buying on line from our shops, it struck me, that in our 91 years of existence, our role at the Chamber has never been so important. We find it very heartwarming that the community has recognized the value of our small businesses and it has stepped up to support them in a big way.

Another important role the EG Chamber is playing is to pump out to the business community valuable information on COVID-19 resources. Information from the SBA ,Commerce RI, Small Business Development Council, the Department of Labor and Training, RI Dept of Health ,The US Chamber of Commerce and much more can be found on our website. In addition, our members receive updated Coronavirus resource and business information twice per week in the EG Chamber’s member e-newsletters. The EG Chamber remains a staunch advocate of our member businesses and the entire East Greenwich business community.

On behalf of the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors, I hope everyone will stay safe and healthy as we practice social distancing and I would like to express our gratitude for all in the community who serve and take care of others during this difficult time. Finally, thanks to everyone for enthusiastically supporting the EG small business community . We remain hopeful that things will begin to return to normal and we can enjoy East Greenwich as a great place to dine, shop, stroll and play.
